The Lowdown: The NYD Run is a challenging, hilly course through single track trails and service roads in Duke Forest. No special rules or requirements. Run fast (as you care to ) and have fun.
We start on the soccer fields of Duke School and head onto a school maintained path that connects with Duke Forest's Pine Thicket Trail. Where Pine Thicket ends at a t-intersection, take a right and run out to the turn-around cone near Gate 3. Proceed back on Gate 3 to Gate 7 Road. At the top of a long climb at about the 1 3/4 mile point, you'll take a right hand turn to begin out and back to a turnaround cone inside of Gate 6. This section, which traverses a sharp little valley, is often leaf covered, so watch your step. When back to the main trail, take a right and go out to the turnaround cone at Gate 7. On the return trip, do the Gate 6 out and back once again, but when you reach Pine Thicket Trail, just take a right and head back to the start/finish line. We will have monitors on the course to help you.
Trivia Question: What, for many years, was the additional competitive aspect of the NYD's Run? Answer: Trivia. We had a trivia contest, but smartphones took the point out of that.,
