Marathon Training Program
Welcome to Carolina Godiva's Marathon Training Program!
The 2012 Godiva MTP began in last July, and most participants have completed their goal races for this year. Look for the 2013 MTP to kick off late next summer. Check back for details.
While the MTP is winding down for this year, there is a regularly scheduled Godiva weekly run at 8:00 a.m. Saturdays in Duke Forest that's suitable for long distance training year round.
Here's some info about the 2012 program, which includes some suggested training plans and routes in Duke Forest:
The 2012 MTP is free and self supporting. Club members usually set water along the route, but each runner should be prepared with his or her own hydration needs. Veterans and those new to distance running are welcome!
LOCATION & PARKING
Saturday morning training runs will begin from Duke Forest Gate 3 , We'll park on the shoulders along NC-751 at our Gate 3 water station (about a half-mile north of the Erwin & NC-751 roundabout intersection) and assemble there to start (and finish) our runs.
WHERE WE RUN
We run on trails and roads in and around the Duke Forest. Here is a trail map with mile markers. Note that this map shows mileage using a start location near the Washington Duke Inn. Although we will be starting from Gate 3 instead (approx. mile 2.25), veteran runners will be able to help others figure out mileage.
Want some ideas for getting specific miles done in Duke Forest? Check out the suggested routes page.
TRAINING PLANS
Although we do not provide individualized training schedules, we have compiled several resources that should help you, no matter what your goal is. To tailor a schedule to your event, simply make your event date "race day" and work backwards.
Unsure of your training pace? See this reference, created by Gary Schultz.
