Tower Climb Hill
Watch for 2024 Updates . . .
WHAT: A Ten or Four Mile Run, To a Tower and Back
WHEN: Sunday, Mar. 10, 2024 10:30 AM
WHERE: Chatham Park Area, Pittsboro
Welcome to all Godivans interested in running the 2022-3 Winter Series Finale. Last year's replacement for Hard Climb Hill seemed to win the approval of runners seeking some tough elevation so we're going to return to Pittsboro and do it again. We'll have the 4 and 10 mile distances with a little better marking this time. Welcome back to Tower Climb Hill!
The race will take place on Sunday, Mar. 10, 2024 10:30 AM. Please note this is a departure from our normal start time, but owing to the fact that we’ve moved out a little bit from our traditional Durham-Chapel Hill venues, we wanted to give folks a little extra time to get out to the Pittsboro area, as well as give an option for some post-run socialization if desired.
The starting point will be at Penguin Place in Pittsboro adjacent to the House of Hops at 112 Russet Run Road. There are no bathroom facilities on site at the start time, however, there is a gas station and Bojangles both within walking distance from the start. Restaurants in the complex will start to open at 11 AM, at which point people will have started finishing. The bar opens at noon, so ten milers can gather some liquid refreshment if that’s their thing.
There will be two distances, both of which are out and backs. Folks running the four(ish) mile distance will gain about 175’ on the out as they approach a water tower, and then enjoy some negative splits on the mostly downhill return. The runners who tackle the 10 mile climb will be treated to the same climb at the start and then a grueling ~200’ ascent as they climb up to and circle a fire tower before returning back to the start. We will have an aid station at miles 3.5 and 6.5 for folks tackling the longer distance.
Unlike Hard Climb Hill, there will be no middle distance. The run will be almost entirely on extremely light trafficked open roads and is an open course. Directional chalk and/or flour arrows on the ground will guide the way. Headphones and dogs are discouraged owing to safety concerns.
There is no pre-registration this year. Please plan to arrive early enough before the 10:30 AM start time to complete day of race registration.
After the race, runners are encouraged to hang out and share a beer at House of Hops, or grab some food from Mi Cancun or Marcos’ Pizza if they feel comfortable doing so. Need a point, but don’t want to run? We’ll need a few volunteers to help out with setup, finish line, and an aid station. Please reach out to William.email@example.com if you’d like to help out.
