NC-USATF Announces 2010 Long Distance Series
CGTC will sponsor the inaugural Carolina Godiva Raleigh Run Around, a 24 Hour race from 9am–9am on Saturday, November 21–22. This race will include two events:
Both races will run concurrently from 9am Saturday, Nov. 21 'til 9am Sunday, Nov. 22.
Here are the results for the in-person Raleigh Runaround.
Preparations for Running Start are ramping up and we're looking for Godivans interested in being pacers. Those who’ve served as pacers in the past know how fun and rewarding it can be. We are hoping to have a large group of trainees this year, and we need plenty of pacers to give them the attention the deserve as they start their running journeys.

Godiva Track Club's 11th Annual Umstead Trail Marathon was once again a huge success! We had 194 runners start and 190 finish on Saturday, March 1st -- our best numbers in race history. The 2014 marathon was exciting, with our return female winner, Lorraine Young, leading for a good portion of the race. Wayne Crews, a Carolina Godiva masters runner, ended up winning the race in an impressive 3:01:16. Michael Dwomoh came in a close second at 3:01:40. Lorraine came in third at 3:03:24, beating the female course record that she set in 2013! Congratulations to all of the racers on their fantastic finishes.
We'd like to acknowledge our generous sponsors, our outstanding volunteers, and the hard working members of the Umstead Trail Marathon Planning Committee.
Umstead Trail Marathon 2014 Volunteers
We’d like to thank all of the volunteers who helped at the race. The volunteers are what really make the race. Their energy and enthusiasm keep the runners moving throughout the tough course.

Umstead Trail Marathon Committee 2014
A March 2013 Carolina Godiva newsletter article by then-President Doug Hensel describes all aspects of the Umstead Marathon and the workings of the planning committee. As he says, we all do a little of everything, but in general, the roles for 2014 were somewhat as follows:
Godiva's Fall Cross Country Series returned in September for the first time since, as best we can remember, 1999. We had 41 participants who turned in a total of 88 performances. Eleven runners competed at each of the four Wednesday evening meets, and will receive their "letter in cross country" at the spring awards banquet:
CGTC hosted a One Hour Run on Wednesday, May 23rd,at the Durham Academy Track. We could say there was a 19-way tie for first, with a time of exactly one hour, but read on for a more discriminating view of the results.
At its annual awards banquet on May 5th, Godiva Track Club recognized three members for outstanding performance and service to the club in the past year. The 2012 Male Runner of the Year is Tim Meigs, and Cathy Wides was named the Female Runner of the Year. Kevin Nickodem is this year's Volunteer of the Year.
Party Like It’s 1975! (only minus the Bee Gees music).
We spend so much time sweating and training and, well, tending to injuries - just take an afternoon off!
We'll celebrate our 35 years of running club history with a fun, laid-back, pot-luck picnic on Sunday, September 26, 4-6 PM at Gate F in Duke Forest (the R.L. Riggsbee picnic shelter -- that's the Couch Mountain race site.)

Godiva Women Take #1
The combined efforts of Alison Gracey, Betsy Kempter, Carolyn Huettel and Cathy Mencarini produced the winning masters team for Godiva at the USATF 10k Trail Championships on August 27th. Alison was the second place masters (and 9th overall) in 1:04:01. Betsy was the third masters (and 11th female overall) finishing in 1:05:20. Carolyn was 21st overall and finished in 1:21:36. Cathy was 25th overall in 1:28:13.
This same Godiva masters team, along with Shannon Johnstone and Aline Lloyd, competed as the Godiva open team and finished #1 in the open competition.
North Carolina USA Track and Field has announced the eight races that will comprise its 2010 Long Distance Running Championship Series. Points earned in the series, which opened with the Tar Heel Ten Miler in Chapel Hill on April 10th, will determine the NC-USATF Endurance Magazine Long Distance Runner of the Year.
