Saturday @ William B. Umstead State Park
8:00 a.m. (Note revised time for the summer season)
Location: Umstead Park, Cary, 27513. Harrison Avenue entrance. From I-40, take the Harrison Ave exit. From the West, turn left on Harrison. From the East, turn right on Harrison. Follow Harrison into the park. We meet in the middle of the parking lot.
Route: We run 10 – 12 miles, with options for shorter. This is difficult running. Most of the run is on single track hiking trails, which are full of roots and rocks. There are also many hills. The route is announced just before starting to run. If you do not want to run as far, let me know and I will send you on a shorter way back. If you decide to depart from the group during the run, please let me know so that I do not look for you once I notice you are missing.
Pace: Your pace in Umstead will be much slower (as much as 2 min/mile) than your pace on asphalt due to roots, rocks, hills, heat, and humidity. Suggested paces for this run are those who run a 5k between 22:00 and 30:00.
- We stop at large intersections to make sure we have everyone, so do not expect a continuous run.
- We typically are back to our cars a little after 11:00.
- Please bring water to carry during the run. I try to get us to water fountains, but the timing may not be when you need water.
- We usually go out for lunch afterwards, so if interested, bring money, a dry set of clothes, shoes, and a towel.
