The Coach Bubba Race 2004-2009

Carolina Godiva Track Club presented the Coach Bubba 20k and 4 mile race the third weekend in February in 2004, 2005, and 2007-2009.

About The Race

The 20 km and the 4 mile courses began in downtown Durham near the Durham Performing Arts Center and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The 20 km course wound through the Forest Hills neighborhood, joining the American Tobacco Trail (ATT) near the halfway point. After a turnaround near the intersection of Martin Luther King Dr. and the the ATT, runners returned directly downtown via the ATT, finishing near the trailhead along Blackwell St. The 4 mile course was out and back on the ATT. The 20k was designated as a Road Runners Club of America State Championship event.

The event's beneficiaries have included The American Heart Association, the Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy, the American Tobacco Trail. and Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA)

About CGTC and Coach Bubba

Godiva Track Club established this event to honor Bruce Koenig, affectionately known as Coach Bubba, and his contributions to the running community. He was a founder of Godiva's Marathon Training Program as well as its Running Start program, the latter for those new to the sport.
